A lot of my work in the past has been inspired by passages from the Bible. Although I am not religious, the old stories I heard as a child in Sunday school left a strong impression on me. These two paintings feature scenes from the story of Jesus.

Here Christ is displayed before the crowds. Pilate offers to save Christ, but the crowd insists on having him killed. I think the composition of this painting emphasizes Jesus’s inevitable and lonely fate.

Here Christ is being taken down from the cross and mourned by followers. A Roman centurion stands nearby, but shows no interest. The severe treatment of the guard contrasts with the softness of the mourners in the background. I’ve used broad marks and tried to keep the composition of this piece simple.
As always, thanks for checking out my website! Next week I will post something different. I am working on getting more of my works photographed to share with all of you.
All the best,
Barry
