The Blues

There once was a drinking establishment at Dundas and Clarence that featured a lot of blues music on their stage. I painted two large canvases for their windows to advertise the fact. Here are three sketches I made in preparation.

There’s a rockin’ little trio under the spotlight tonight.

Here we’re onstage with the band, with the patrons and the bar in the background.

This last design was not chosen for the project, but I like the way the two figures frame the sketchy scene of a city street at night.

The blues club closed its doors long ago, the musical acts replaced by strippers, and that, my friends, has got me singin’ the blues…
