Adam and Eve

The Bible’s first couple is a theme I have painted many times, original sin and all that. Featured here are two such paintings that are painted very differently, but both depict the same scene.

Here, perhaps it is not known if Eve has tasted the fruit yet, but Adam still seems curious. Although the paint is quickly applied, the end result is more realistic than the second depiction.

The second painting is more like a landscape and the figures are more schematic, although I think I managed to pull off a sense of space. Both of these pictures were painted in the same period of my life (around 1995), and have the same colour range. I like the dry scumbling brushstrokes and the last minute sense of balance I have achieved here.

I have done many other versions of this theme, which you can expect to see in future posts. Also, this week we have updated the layout of the website with a new look that better shows off my work and is perhaps more user-friendly. Check it out, and thanks again for your interest!

All the best,

Barry
