Once again I am presenting a drawing and the painting it inspired. In this case, the drawing was used as the poster illustration for a show of drawings I had in 1988. Here, the onlookers include the goateed art expert, a young female enthusiast, a wealthy little patron in the foreground, and lastly, the artist standing back from the group also eyeing the canvas.

Here is a painted version of the same scene done almost a decade later. I have basically stuck to the script with the layout but felt free to play with the colours. I like the way the bright colours sing against the sketchy blandness of the background. I have used the effects of reflected colour to a somewhat exaggerated effect, but I think that this adds to the painting.

Thanks to all you art enthusiasts out there for visiting my virtual studio and wishing all the Canadians reading this a very happy Thanksgiving.
