The Pinery
Today we are heading to the Pinery, one of my favourite places on Lake Huron. There are only some light waves, but the swimming should be lovely. Don’t forget your sunscreen! ‘Til next week, Barry

Today’s blog features costumed revellers, perhaps celebrating Hallowe’en. I feel I have achieved a lively composition here with minimal application of paint. In painting, as in many things, it’s important to know when to stop. I hope you enjoy this week’s offering, and please check in again next week. As always, Barry
We’re in the full heat of summer now, so let’s get naked in the garden with the Bible’s first couple! In this Planet People poster, Eve holds out the forbidden fruit for Adam to sample. This gives them knowledge of good and evil, but causes them to be banished from paradise. In this second version … More Adam and Eve Revisited
Once absolute rulers by divine right, today’s king is more celebrity than monarch. This guy is used to the way things were before Magna Carta. I like the monumental aspect of his head. Absolute power ( or inbreeding ) leads to madness. I like his gaze and the movement of paint in this one. … More Kings
This week we will raise a glass to the toast of your choosing as we present images of drinkers. Here we are in a tavern at closing time. How did that old song go? From the tavern to the classical world, and we’re switching to wine. Merlot anyone? Wine after beer, does that … More Drinkers
These two hang on the wall on either side of our bed, giving us delusions of grandeur. They are meant to compliment each other, as in any good marriage. I like the way the flat colour gives the pair a playing card look. By your leave, Barry.
As a young artist, I once spent a summer in the country with like-minded friends in an old clapboard house that belonged to my aunt. Here are two landscapes that derive from that time. There was a creek that ran through a valley nearby, and this was painted from some elevation. l like this honest … More Iona
Idyll; A pastoral scene, this one with a yellow gazelle. Here the woody sound of the recorder fills the forest. To idyllic times, Barry.
An incestuous relationship between Gaia, primordial earth goddess, and her son Uranus, god of the sky, produced the Titans, the giant early gods of Greek myth. Here Gaia represents agriculture and settled living with her sunny countenance while steely Uranus displays the cold inhospitable nature of space. I’m proud of the way these two … More The Titans
Once again Salome dances the head off John the Baptist. I like the sense of light, space and movement I have achieved with this image. The king and queen react differently to the dance and poor John seems positively horrified! Here John is spared the indignity of the spectacle. I’m proud of Salome’s … More Salome Dancing
